Open to Scouts who meet the national requirements, NYLT participants grow together as leaders as they participate in hands-on activities that teach them how to manage group dynamics, build communications skills, develop a vision, set goals, and execute a plan. In addition, they learn about problem-solving, conflict resolution, ethical decision-making, and effective teaching. The lessons taught at NYLT gives Scouts a firm foundation for making good decisions throughout their lives.

In addition to learning these important skills, NYLT participants will return to their home units energized with Scouting spirit, ready to introduce new songs, skits, and games to the unit, as well as with a renewed emphasis on the importance of the Patrol Method and Scout Leadership.
